Shopify POS: check-in and register

Check guests in at the door with the QR code and take payment for bookings and tickets at the Shopify POS register.

With Shopify POS your team checks customers in on a phone or tablet and sells bookings and tickets at the register. Everything happens in the tile Bookique Check-in on the home screen of the POS app. No extra hardware is needed – a phone or tablet with the Shopify POS app is enough; an external barcode scanner works too.

Set up

  1. 1Add the Point of Sale sales channel in Shopify and install the Shopify POS app on a phone or tablet.
  2. 2Give the staff accounts access to the Bookique app in Shopify (Settings › Users).
  3. 3In the POS app, tap “Edit” on the home screen, add the “Bookique Check-in” tile and open it once to connect the register.

If you have several locations, the tile asks once which Bookique location the register belongs to; Location in the tile changes it later. Under Settings → Check-in at the register (Shopify POS) you see the steps and how many registers are connected.

Check-in code for customers

As soon as a register is connected, the confirmation emails for appointments and event tickets contain a check-in code with a QR code. Customers also find it on the page to manage their booking and in their customer account (My bookings). If you saved your own confirmation template, insert the placeholders {{check_in_code}} and {{check_in_qr}} yourself.

Check-in at the door

  • The tile shows how many bookings there are today and how many people are in, for example “12 today · 5 in”.
  • The list of today shows time, name, service or ticket type and “2 of 4 in”. Search by name, email, phone, order or code.
  • Scan reads the QR code with the camera or an external scanner.
  • Let in part of a group or everyone: Let 1 in, Let 2 in or Let everyone in. Undo takes a check-in back.
  • Clear warnings for bookings that are cancelled, not confirmed (not paid or still a request), for another location, for another day, or when everyone is already in.

A complete check-in marks the booking as completed; undoing it sets it back to confirmed. Rentals over several days are checked in on the first day. In the admin, the booking details show “Checked in: 2 of 4” with time and check-in code, and the participant list of an event has the column In.

Sell at the register

  • Pay at the register – an open booking made online without payment (by form or as an approved request) goes into the register cart with its extras. Your team takes payment as usual – card, cash, receipt. Bookique records the order on the booking; the customer gets no second confirmation.
  • New booking – service, staff member (or “Anyone”), day and free time, then the customer (optional) and Add to cart.
  • Box office today – today's event dates with their ticket types; choose the number of tickets and add them to the cart. Free places drop right away.
  • Book next visit – from a booking, opens the same service with the same staff member six weeks later, with the customer filled in.

Only services and events with payment in the Shopify checkout can be sold at the register; Bookique publishes their products in the Point of Sale channel. Rentals, passes and offers without a Shopify product are not sold at the register. A time reserved at the register is held for 30 minutes while you take payment. Register bookings show “Booked via Shopify POS”; with an email address the customer gets the normal confirmation.
